High-quality online tutoring
Hi, I’m Finn. Having recently completed my master’s degree in classical literature at the University of Oxford, I’m now a trainee Classics teacher, working with students daily in schools. I’ve been tutoring school and sixth-form students for nearly four years. In that time, I’ve helped some students achieve scholarships and top exam results, and others lay a solid foundation when classwork was confusing. If you’d like to learn more about my tutoring style and what an online session with me is like, then read on — or to find out more about me, click here.
If you’d like to book a session or just ask a question, go ahead and drop me a line by email, phone, or text. As a first step I always offer a free consultation, which is a chance for us both to check that I’m a good fit for you or your child.
What are my sessions like?
I’m a friendly and patient tutor, who can design sessions to respond to your needs. Because our sessions will be one-to-one, we can take all the time we need on your questions. I love seeing tricky grammar ‘click’ for a student after taking the time to explore how a language really works, or opening up a whole new angle on ancient literature and society in our discussion.
I put in a lot of time and expertise to design a unique action plan targeted to your level and needs. I love to design highly personalised activities that make sure your understanding has solid foundations, and I reinforce what you’ve learnt at regular intervals to make sure it sticks. I’m familiar with all the major courses, textbooks, and specifications, meaning I can design custom support that complements and backs up your school teaching — or help you carve your own path above and beyond the syllabus.
About online sessions
Unless you’re based in Oxford and want to meet in person, all of my sessions happen online via video conferencing. Over hundreds of sessions, I’ve learnt how to get the best out of these technologies, and overcome the hitches. We can use the lesson environment to work on documents together and share links and text, while also talking face-to-face. I guide students to get the tech set up for the minimum fuss, so I can get to know you and how you learn, and use the space flexibly according to your needs.
How much does it cost?
My rates are all visible upfront, and offer great value for money. Because you’re working with me directly, I’m able to charge much less than a tutor with my education and experience is likely to on the big tutoring sites.
Please note: my rates are currently not being updated because I am not taking on regular clients. Theprices below are for reference as of mid-2024. Please enquire for the latest rates for one-off sessions. What you get | What you pay |

Marking: to supplement your tutoring, school work, or independent study, you might want an assessment or homework marked without taking up time in the session. I offer careful, constructive marking with written feedback tailored to your needs. The rate is the same as for tutoring at your level, but charged per ten minutes — for instance, if it took me 20 minutes to mark a GCSE translation, the cost would be £11. Estimates are available in advance. |
Do bear in mind that these might change from time to time. Sessions booked in advance are always locked in at the price offered when you book. To find out more about payment, cancellations, and more, check my policies and practicalities page.
